About Doug
Doug Mauk is a business leader, builder, and community servant who believes Hart County’s future should be guided by common sense, fiscal responsibility, and respect for its rural character.
As President of Silver Oak Contracting, Doug has spent decades managing complex construction projects that demand careful planning, strict budgets, and accountability. He also serves as President of Silver Oak Homes, a Hartwell-based custom home building and remodeling company recognized for exceptional craftsmanship and ethical business practices. In 2025, Doug was honored as Dan Saye Builder of the Year, a peer-recognized award reflecting leadership and excellence in the building industry.
Doug understands the real challenges facing Hart County—managing growth responsibly, planning infrastructure wisely, protecting farmland and Lake Hartwell, and being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. His experience running successful businesses requires the same transparency and discipline residents expect from local government.
Doug currently serves as President of the Athens Area Home Builders Association, helping guide education, workforce development, and professional standards across the region. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Hartwell Youth Development Resource Association (HYDRA), supporting programs that invest in the education and positive development of Hart County’s youth.
Doug and his wife, Amanda, are proud parents of four and grandparents of eight. His commitment to family, community, and hard work drives his belief that Hart County should grow thoughtfully—preserving what makes it special while preparing for future generations.
